of E-Leather within the worldwide fashion leather accessories market.
E-Leather Ltd produces a range of engineered high performance materials following 10 years and US$26 million of investment.
E-leather has a unique blend of leather and textile properties that meet demanding requirements for shoe uppers, automotive and aircraft seating. Its prime component is leather fibre, which is intimately 're-woven' and finished so it is practically indistinguishable from good quality natural leather. It is highly consistent, has excellent physical properties and is about half the weight. Supply in rolls reduces cutting wastage to around 5% compared to 18-40% for natural hides.
The patented process combines the most modern leather and textile technologies, and will produce rolls 1.5 m wide and up to 1 kilometre in length. Smaller length rolls can be supplied to customers' requirements. Production began in September 2006 from our new premises in Peterborough, UK.
"E-Leather" is the universal term given to a range of E-Leather Ltd materials for all product types. The material is based on around 75-80% of leather fibre, and uses a range of highly engineered synthetic fibres to further increase product performance.
Comparison of the cross-sections of leather with E-Leather demonstrates the extent to which the technology mirrors that of nature. For this reason, the resultant product has a similar appearance and handle characteristic to leather.
Whilst the qualities of the material as "Engineered Leather" gave rise to the origin of its name, E-Leather has become synonymous with;

US$2 million Plant Upgrade
In addition to the US$26 million provided for product development and plant installation, a further US$2 million has been invested in up-grading this modern facility to service the high demand in the aviation and mass transport sectors. E-Leather exhibits exceptional fire retardancy which has been further augmented by techniques which cannot be replicated by natural leather. Technical optimisation of the product has been made possible by a plant upgrade designed to process specialist products at high throughput rates. This will enable customers to source high performing products with short lead-times -these specialist products will be available from the 1st April 2007. Following THE highly successful product launch trade exhibitions, we have produced a new sample of E-Leather which we believe will more suited to the needs and requirements of the fashion leather accessories market, and is currently being used in the manufacture of High Fashion branded footwear/accessories. E-leather is not PVC and does not contain any Phthalates.
